Cutting the Cost of Your Wedding Flowers

Submitted By: Criss White
Weddings are almost always synonymous to flowers. At every point of the wedding, from the ceremony to the reception, flowers are present in the decorations, as bouquets, and in the attire of the entourage. The cost of flowers and floral arrangement can easily double or triple depending on when you order them, the choice of flowers, and the size and quantity ordered.

Venue – The chosen venue can significantly impact your floral costs. If you have a bare room or hall, you will really need to soften up or dress up the place with flowers and other décor such as ribbons or bouquets. However, if you choose a garden set-up, or a ballroom that has been pre-designed already, you will need just a minimal number of flowers for the venue.

Centerpiece – Traditionally, flowers on vases are the ones used for centerpieces. But instead of buying a large number of arranged flowers as centerpieces, why not use alternative decorative items for them. Use wine bottles laced with ribbons as the centerpiece. You can also use the wedding favors as decorative centerpieces for the meantime, and just give them away or have the guests pick them up from their own table towards the end of the reception. You can use them as alternatives, or you can alternate the arrangements placing flowers, favors, then flowers, in an alternating manner.

Silk flowers – There are silk flowers that are available and they are way cheaper than real flowers. What’s more is that they don’t get spoil or wilt towards the end of the reception. You can choose from a variety of silk flowers that are available in every flower kind and color as well.

DIY flowers – You can ask the local florist from a supermarket or grocery near you to prepare flowers beforehand. On the day of the wedding, have family and friends prepare them for the event. They need not be as good-looking as professional arrangements, but some ribbons and small doses of laces here and there can them look really good.

Size of bridal bouquet – The bridal bouquet does not always need to be a whole bunch of flowers. It can be a single long-stem rose, or a small bundle of flowers depending on your gown size. Without planning, you can end up buying a very expensive bouquet when in fact you can prepare for them at lower than even half the price.

Alternatives – Look for less expensive alternatives to decorating your venue. Ribbons and streamers can be used for the reception hall to create an elegant look without spending a lot of money. You can also use things that will already be needed for the wedding, like food arrangements and wedding favors, as decorations.

Flowers can make your wedding truly special. But this does not mean that it has to cost a fortune and take a major chunk of your wedding budget. With the proper planning and a little creativity, you can create your dream floral arrangements without having to break the bank. Check where you can do without the flowers and just focus on select areas where you will truly need them. Flowers in the reception and in some areas of the church are areas where you can greatly cut the cost of your flower expenses.
